The office of Township Clerk is an elected board position, responsible for keeping the township's documents and records, and the preparation of minutes of the township board meetings.

The clerk is also responsible for the updating and publishing of the changes in the Zoning and Code Ordinances, approves, signs and records all vouchers for payment from budget accounts.

Additional duties include administering the Oath of Office for all Township elected or appointed offices, and township's records retention, storage, and timely destruction are handled by the Clerk's office.

One of the primary statutory functions of the Township Clerk is to encourage and educate the public on voter registration, to maintain all voter registration records for Hartland Township and Hartland Consolidated Schools, as well as being responsible for all aspects of elections, including the training of election inspectors.

The Clerk's Office conducts all elections in accordance with State and Federal law. On an annual basis the township clerk visits the Ore Creek middle school to instruct students about voting and visits Hartland High School to register prospective voters as well as encourage all registered voters to vote.
