Water System Flushing
All hydrants on the township water system are flushed twice a year to flush out any rust that may have accumulated in the water mains. Residents may expect to see rusty/discolored water during the times that hydrants are being flushed in their area. Residents can run cold water for 10-15 minutes or until the water runs clear. It is recommended that the residents do not do laundry when the flushing is occurring in their area. Click here for the May 2013 Water System Flushing Schedule.

If you notice a sustained decrease in pressure or are unable to flush out the discoloration after letting water run, please contact the water system operator at (810) 632-9405 or the Township Public Works Director at (810) 632-7498 ext. 262.

Is my drinking water safe?

Hartland Township vigilantly safeguards its water supplies and once again we are proud to report that our system has not violated a maximum contaminant level or any other water quality standard.  Please read the Consumer Confidence Report for more information.

Individuals in need of drinking water sample testing are responsible for procuring their own sample bottles and delivering them to a certified lab of their choice, or contracting with a third party to perform your sampling.  Sample bottles can be obtained from the certified drinking water laboratory of your choice.

The MDEQ Laboratory may still be used.  Please keep in mind the holding times for bacteriological is 30 hours and nitrate is 48 hours.  Please ensure they get to the lab in a timely manner.  Contact information for local certified laboratories are listed below:
