Dog Licenses

Hartland Township sells dog licenses for

the convenience of the Hartland residents.

Michigan State Law requires that all dogs over four (4) months old be licensed.

To obtain a dog license, you will need to provide proof of current rabies vaccination and proof of  spaying/neutering (if applicable) at the time you purchase the license.

By State Statute, this information must be provided

EVERY time you renew your dog license.

License Expirations:
Dog Licenses now expire when the rabies vaccination expires.

Check your rabies expiration date to see if you need to set up an appointment with your veterinarian.  Rabies vaccinations can be administered by your vet, any day of the month that the vaccination expires.

3 Year Dog Licenses - Rabies Vaccination must cover the complete licensing period.  You may find that you must purchase 1 year licenses until your dog becomes eligible for a 3 year license.

Your next license MUST be purchased by the end of the RABIES EXPIRATION MONTH or a late fee will be added to the cost of your dog license.

Purchasing Dog Licenses by mail, send the rabies information along with a check and self-addressed stamped envelope and payment.  The rabies certificate will be returned with the license.

Lost Dog Tags:
We charge $1.00 for a replacement tag. Send or bring in current proof of rabies vaccination (rabies vaccination cannot expire within 30 days of reissuing tag) and, if available, your copy of the license application.  If you do not have the copy of the application, call or stop in to our office, and we will be happy to look up the information for you.

Protecting Your Pet:
Your local vet will be promoting two options for identifying your lost pet:  Microchip technology and tattooing.  A microchip is a permanent form of ID about the size of a grain of rice.  For most animals, the chip is implanted just under the skin in the scruff of the neck.  It is not a tracking device.  When a hand-held scanner passes over the microchip, it reads the unique encoded number.  This ID number is the only information stored in the microchip.

A tattoo is a good form of permanent ID as well. For more information please call 517-373-1077 or go to the State of Michigan Website and search for Dog Tattooer.

Call your veterinarian for more information.
