THE HARTLAND TOWNSHIP BOARD
The Hartland Township board is made up of 7 elected Officials who
equally and exclusively hold and exercise all policy forming and
legislative functions and all powers and rights relative to control
of Township property. They declare and define either through ordinance
or resolution all general practices and principles relative to the
conduct of Township services. One of the main duties of the Township
Board is to establish policies. Policy tools include adoption of
the annual operating budget; adoption of the mission, goals and
objectives and establishment of priorities for public services.
The Township Board also ratifies contracts, zoning ordinances and
changes. Public leadership is provided by the Township Board through
verbal and written communications with constituents. Their wishes
are brought forth and addressed by the Board. The Township Board
is responsible for the arbitration of conflicting interests, which
arise during the course of Township business.
The final category of responsibility, which falls to the Township
Board is the decision-making duty. The Board studies problems, reviews
the alternatives and determines the best course of public policy.
The public policy is then provided to the Township staff to carry
out.
The Township Board adopts goals and objectives for the entire Township
and establishes those with priorities - a high priority and then
a lesser priority. These will be dealt with in other areas of the
budget but they do become the policy guidelines for preparing the
budget by all departments.
