  • The warning red light and alarm above my sewer system is acitvated, what do I do?

      Call 517-546-0040 , for Sewer Emergenicies-24 hours a day.  Notice: Do not run water or flush toilets until the sewer is serviced.

  • How can I purchase a cemetery grave or lot?
    Individual Graves or Plots are available for purchase in Hodge Cemetery at a cost of $400 per grave for residents, only. Lots can be purchased through the office of the Clerk.

  • When and where are the meetings for the Hartland Township Board, Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Parks and Recreation Commission?
    All meetings are held at the Hartland Township Board are held at the Township Hall, 2655 Clark Road. Township Board meetings begin at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise posted on the window of the Township Hall.     The schedule for meetings is as follows:

    • Hartland Township Board Meeting, 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.
    • Planning Commission, 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.
    • Zoning Board of Appeals, third Wednesday of each month.

  • Where do our children attend school?
    The school district for the Hartland Township is the Hartland Consolidated Schools.

  • Who are the members of Hartland Township Board?
    The Township Board consists of seven (7) members elected by Hartland Township voters, for a 4 year term of office. Current members include; Supervisor, Don Rhodes, Clerk Ann Ulrich, CMC, Treasurer,Kathie Horning, Trustee Joseph Colainne, Trustee Bill Fountain, Trustee Larry J. Hopkins and Trustee Joseph M.   • How do I arrange for garbage/recycling pickup once my residence is finished and I have obtained my certificate of occupancy?
    Garbage/Recycling pickup is not automatic. Residents who live in a subdivision should contact their Homeowners Association. Residents living in other areas of the Township, should either contact their neighbors, or use the Yellow Pages phone book to contact independent Trash Collectors. It pays to shop around for the best price.

Election & Voter Registration Questions

  • Where do I register to vote?
    Qualified electors may register to vote in person at the Hartland Township Clerk's Office, the County Clerk's Office or any Secretary of State's office. Voter registration may be obtained by mail. Contact the clerk's office or click here for a register by mail-in form in (
    PDF format). Please be aware that if you register by mail, you are not eligible to vote absentee until you have voted one time in person at the polls.

    Effective April 1, 2000, Public Act 118 of 1999 amended the Michigan Vehicle Code to clarify that a person's driver license address must correspond to his or her voter registration address. An address change submitted by an individual on a voter registration application form will automatically carry over to the individual's driver license record. Similarly, an address change submitted by an individual to update his or her driver license record will automatically carry over to the individual's voter registration record.


  • What are the requirements to register to vote?
    A person must be a citizen of the United States. A person must be a resident of the State of Michigan and will be at least a 30 day resident of the township/city/village by Election Day. Will be at least 18 years of age by Election Day. Note: If false information is provided, a person has committed perjury and is subject to a fine or imprisonment or both under Federal or State Law.
  • What are the deadlines to register to vote?
    The last day to register to vote for any election is thirty days prior the election.


  • Where do I vote?
    For all elections, Hartland Township Voters vote at the former Hartland High School on M-59.
    When you register to vote, you will receive a voter identification card in the mail which will identify your voting precinct. Click here for a precinct map of Hartland Township.

  • How do I get an absentee ballot?
    An absentee ballot may be obtained by completing an absentee ballot form provided by the Township Clerk's office or by sending a letter to the Township Clerk's office requesting a ballot. Your request must include the reason for voting absentee, your signature and the address to which the ballot should be mailed. Ballots are generally available about six weeks prior to any election. If you are over sixty (60) years of age or are permanently disabled you may request to be included in our list of voters who automatically receive absentee ballot applications for all elections. Contact the clerk's office.

  • How do I become an election worker?
