Dear
Ann,
Q:
Can I do recycling in Hartland? Ann Ulrich, Clerk
A:
Residents who do not participate in curbside recycling can recycle trash
at Recycle Livingston, located North of Grand River (behind CVS Pharmacy)
170 Catrell St. The cost is $2 per load of recycled material. Membership at
Recycle Livingston is available for $20/year, which allows for unlimited recycling.
Basic rules for recycling at the facility are: paper, plastic, glass, metal
and Styrofoam-must be kept separate. Large, sturdy pieces of Styrofoam are
accepted, but packaging peanuts are not. Only plastics with a No. 2 label
are accepted. Recycle Livingston requests that all containers be rinsed. Newspaper
should be separated from other forms of paper. All colors of glass bottles
and jars are accepted. Recycling may be dropped off the first and third Wednesday
of every month, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., and every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. These hours are effective November 1st through March 31st. Summer
hours are effective April 1st through October 31st. In the summer, the facility
is open every Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and every Saturday from 8:30 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m
Special
Event:
ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DAY: June 7th, 9:00 am until 2:00pm. Why recycle E-waste?
Personal computer monitors and televisions can contain from 3 to 8 pounds
of lead and beryllium, cadmium, chromium, mercury, or other potentially toxic
materials that can threaten our health and environment if not disposed of
properly.
Q:
My Family will be having a reunion during July. Is it possible to reserve
the Township Park, Ball fields and Picnic Pavilion on Hartland Road?
A:
Yes, your Township Board just recently “tweaked” the reservation
form to accommodate Hartland residents who wish to reserve Spranger Field
(Large Park on Hartland Rd. next to the Fire Station). Reservation forms are
now available at the Township Hall. Please allow ample time prior to your
event to submit forms and receive a response.
Q:
How do I arrange for garbage/recycling pickup?
A.
Garbage/Recycling pickup is not automatic. Residents who live in a subdivision
should contact their Homeowners Association. Residents living in other areas
of the Township, should either contact their neighbors, or use the Yellow
Pages phone book to contact independent Trash Collectors. Finally, the quickest
way to locate trash collectors is to visit www.hartland.mi-twp.org, go to
the Clerk’s page and click on Frequently Asked Questions. It pays to
shop around for the best price.
Q: Can you explain how to recycle Motor Oil?
A.
Here's How:
1. Drain your
oil into a reusable container, like a milk jug.
2. Take it to a participating collection site, listed below.
Important!! Do
not mix other wastes with used oil! Locations near Hartland where you can
recycle with no charge: Call ahead to confirm!
Oil Facts and
why to recycle: Did you know, in Michigan, an estimated 11 million gallons
of used oil are dumped in sewers, empty lots, on roads, on weeds and in landfills
by people who change their own oil. Oil kills aquatic life, pollutes ground
water and one pint of oil can create an acre size oil slick on surface water.
Q:
What new buildings can we expect to see in Hartland in the near future?
A:
Groundbreaking will soon occur on new developments recently approved by your
Township Board. At Clark road and M-59, an Ice Arena/gymnastics facility will
be built. Watch for the mall enlargement and the new fountain at the former
“bucky’s plaza, complete with a new restaurant.
