In accordance with state law, the Livingston County Road Commision (LCRC) [link] and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) [link] have jurisdiction over public roads in Hartland Township. These agencies are responsible for constructing and maintaining the public roads that fall under their jurisdiction. They also carry the legal liability for the roads and funding for roads is provided by the state legislature only to these agencies. Private residential streets are built, maintained and paid for by homeowners.
Hartland Township works closely with LCRC and MDOT to improve our road system and service to residents. A dust control program for minor, unpaved roads (as designated by LCRC) is administered by the Township, with two applications of mineral brine each year. The Township also provides electrical service for streetlighting at key locations throughout the Township.
Service Requests for road emergencies and routine maintenance can be reported to the LCRC by calling (517) 546-4250 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After-hours road emergencies can be reported during evening hours by calling 911.
Please contact the Department of Public Works to report a street light outage.
