A Message from Township Manager Bob West about 3/23/21 Special Meeting

The Planned Development (PD) approval process is a three (3)-stage process. The Newberry project has recently been revised to eliminate 40-acres from prior proposals. As a result of the revisions and other changes on the remaining property, the developer is required to begin the PD approval process back at stage one. The Township Planning Commission provided the developer with feedback regarding the conceptual plans on Thursday, March 18, 2021. The conceptual plan now advances to the Township Board tomorrow evening for additional feedback regarding the conceptual proposal. This process will complete stage one, the concept plan review. The conceptual plan feedback is incorporated into subsequent plan sets and if the developer desires to proceed, the next step of the PD process is the preliminary review of the PD. A public hearing will be scheduled for the preliminary review at a future date based upon the developer submitting preliminary review plans.

Tomorrows Township Board Meeting is not a public hearing, yet it is a public meeting and residents can attend. Additionally, the meeting will not be an approval nor a denial, but rather a review of the conceptual plans. The Township Board is holding a special meeting to be Business Friendly, in that the Newberry project has been in process for many years, and now must start the process over due to unforeseen circumstances. The intent is to minimize the time loss from their prior process.  The meeting is planned to be held in person at the Township Hall, as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has permitted in-person meetings with contingencies.

In the interim, please feel free to attend any public meeting, send correspondence to the Planning Director at tlanger@hartlandtwp.com or contact me directly with questions or comments regarding the development. Thank you for your time and understanding.
