Hartland Village Cemetery is in the Village of Hartland on the corner of Avon Street (Hartland Road) and Henry Street. It is across the street from the Cromaine Library. The cemetery is situated on 3.6 acres of land.

  • One of the oldest known burials is that of Thomas Hall, a Hartland Township pioneer, who died April 24, 1840.
  • The original name was Hartland Burying Ground.
  • Chauncy L. and Robert C. Crouse transferred approximately two acres of the original cemetery to the Hartland Township Board of Health in 1864.
  • The cemetery includes the graves of several early settlers, including Samuel Mapes and Dr. Josiah T. Clark, who ministered to people suffering from smallpox during the late 1940’s.
  • Some grave markers also display the names of some of Hartland’s most prominent citizens, including members of the Crouse family and members of the Tremaine family.
  • Six War of 1812 and twenty-four Civil War Veterans are interred here.
