Sewer Billing

Hartland Township’s sewer system is owned and operated by the Livingston County Drain Commission (LCDC) with wastewater treatment by Genesee County.  The Township transferred ownership to the LCDC when its system failed to comply with the requirements of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).  While the Township strove to keep costs steady for users – as it had done for over a decade – the new infrastructure was costly.  As a result, the Township experienced a significant deficit in its operations budget and was required to submit a deficit elimination plan to the State, which included rate increases.

The Township continues to advocate for savings and cost control whenever possible.  For more information on the Township’s sewer system, read our frequently asked questions.

In response to residents' concerns about budgeting for increases, the Township Board of Trustees has established annual, rather than quarterly, rates. Beginning April 1, 2015, sewer rates will remain consistent throughout the calendar year.
